Wolpe Tempest is a digital revival of Berthold Wolpes original display typeface first used as hand lettering for a book jacket at the Fanfare Press in 1935. A year later, the design was made into fonts for Monotype typesetters. Wolpes design goal was to create a design distinctive from the formal and somewhat static designs sans serif typefaces that were currently popular at the time.Wolpe Tempest is a 21st century digital interpretation of this lively design. Available in three weights of OpenType fonts, Wolpe Tempest is one of the five suites of designs in the Berthold Wolpe Collection of typefaces.Wolpe was born in Germany, and was a student of Rudolf Koch. He began his career at the Klingspor foundry in Offenbach but moved to England in 1932. While Wolpe designed several typefaces, his main body of work was the many book jackets he designed for Faber & Faber publishers. Wolpe died in 1989 at the age of 84
